The St. Louis Blues have made some waves coming out of the Swedish Hockey League today, asking the Malmo Redhawks to terminate Blues prospect Otto Stenberg's loan agreement, thus allowing him to come to play for the American hockey league for the rest of the season. Malmo announced early this morning that the St. Louis Blues had contacted them and asked that their loan agreement for O. Stenberg be terminated for releasing him to transfer to the AHL.
Translation for the announcement tweet is as follows: "There will be no return for Otto Stenberg – Malmö Redhawks have been contacted during the day by the request from St. Louis Blues to terminate the loan agreement early"
Otto Stenberg has not yet returned from representing Sweden at the World Juniors, where he finished 12 in points overall with 8 total points in 7 games (3 goals & 5 assists). Stenberg was one of the 3 players that the Blues Drafted in the 1st round of the 2023 NHL Draft. In 25 games in the SHL for the Redhawks Stenberg averaged only 12:28 of ice time and out of the 25 games hit above 15 minutes 3 times. The Blues made the right decision as Stenberg as the SHL has a track record of not playing high-potential prospects more ice time.
